In California, physical therapists can evaluate and treat patients without a physician referral for up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first. To prevent any interruption in care, your physical therapist can share your evaluation and treatment plan with your physician or qualified healthcare provider (MD, DO, PA, or NP) to obtain a signed referral if needed. For insurance reimbursement purposes, many plans require a referral, so we recommend requesting one from your provider prior to your initial visit whenever possible.

We treat individuals of all genders (yes, men too!) over the age of 18. We do not accept patients under the age of 18, but we are happy to recommend a therapist who does specialize in pediatric pelvic floor issues.CHECK OUT OUR PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES.

After scheduling your initial pelvic floor or oncology/lymphedema physical therapy evaluation, you’ll be asked to complete intake forms prior to your appointment. These forms allow you to share your health history, symptoms, and concerns, helping your physical therapist prepare for a thorough and personalized assessment.
When you arrive at the clinic, you’ll be welcomed into a private treatment room for an in-depth discussion of your intake information, current challenges, and goals for pelvic health and/or oncology/lymphedema physical therapy. Your therapist will then perform a comprehensive evaluation tailored to your individual needs, which may include an assessment of posture, pelvic alignment, external pelvic girdle and hip muscles and an internal pelvic floor muscle assessment to assess the muscle strength, tone and function of your pelvic floor muscles.
An internal vaginal and/or rectal muscle assessment will only be performed with your written and verbal permission and only if you are comfortable. If you would prefer to wait until a future session or not at all, we are totally fine with that.
Based on the information gathered, your physical therapist will develop a personalized treatment plan designed to address your specific concerns and support long-term healing. When appropriate, referrals to other healthcare providers may be recommended to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care.

Postpartum physical therapy plays an important role in recovery after childbirth, and the timing of care depends on your individual needs. Many patients are first seen for postpartum pelvic floor physical therapy between 4–6 weeks after delivery, which allows time for initial healing while ensuring a safe return to rehabilitation. Babies are always welcome to attend appointments.
For those seeking additional support earlier, early postpartum physical therapy may begin as soon as 2 weeks postpartum, focusing on gentle core retraining, pain management, and early recovery strategies. Unless significant pain or complications are present, more comprehensive postpartum pelvic health rehabilitation typically resumes around 6 weeks postpartum.
At this stage, treatment may address common postpartum concerns such as pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, urinary urgency or leakage, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse, and core or abdominal dysfunction. If you are interested in starting care earlier than 4 weeks postpartum, we encourage you to contact our office to discuss your options.

Yes—patients are welcome and encouraged to attend pelvic floor physical therapy while on their menstrual cycle. Hormonal changes can play a significant role in pelvic health symptoms, and many patients notice increased pelvic pain, muscle tension, urinary symptoms, or discomfort during their period. Treating symptoms during menstruation can be helpful, and your physical therapist can also teach strategies to better manage cycle-related symptoms moving forward.
That said, receiving treatment during your period is always your choice. Pelvic health physical therapy can be modified to meet your comfort level, including focusing on external techniques, movement, and exercise during that session. If you prefer to reschedule your appointment, we completely understand and are happy to accommodate—please just be mindful of our cancellation policy when doing so.
